Missouri Military in the War of 1812
Missouri Military in the War of 1812
In the Missouri Historical Review, Volume 4 Issue 1, dated October of 1909, there is an article by Will C. Ferril, the Curator of the State Historical and Natural History Society of Denver, Colorado. Mr. Ferril suggests that the military men who built and defended the forts in the Territory of Missouri from Indian attacks should be officially recognized by the State of Missouri as a part of the volunteer or military force of Missouri during the War of 1812 when those attacks were made. He references the History of Howard and Cooper counties, Missouri published in 1883 by the National Historical Company. Pages 95 to 98 contain a list of the men and older boys in the three main forts in the Boone's Lick country that eventually became Howard County, Missouri.
