Benton county, MO 1850 Federal Census - Notes Transcriber's MISCELLANEOUS NOTES for 1850 Benton Co, MO CENSUS TRANSCRIPTION 24 Jan 2000 Dwelling Numbers ---------------- The dwelling numbers and family numbers always matched although there are several instances where the occupants should probably be categorized as two families within a single dwelling. There was no dwelling #33 listed There was no dwelling #175 listed. There is a dwelling between #174 and #176 but it was also labelled as #176 Color ----- About 1/4 of the way through the census (line 33 page 286B) the enumerator quit putting any marks for the person's color with the exception of several Black people. Probably if this field is blank the person is White. Enumerator Spelling and Copying errors -------------------------------------- It is unknown how many names were misspelled or later miscopied by the enumerator but the errors may be severe. One example is Family #136 which is listed as last name Lopp but is known to actually be Sapp. Transcriber and Proofreaders ---------------------------- Transcribed by Dennis Miller, descendant of James J. Dennis, Jodi and Jenny are all descended from Henry A. Dawson, deceased Apr 1850.
